Zaha Hadid’s winning design of Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in Vilnius

This is the winning entry of the competition for the design of the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum in the ancient Lithuanian capital city of Vilnius. A design of the Pritzker prize-winning maestro architect Zaha Hadid, this silvery space-ship building would certainly stand out in the very traditional capital of Vilnius know more for it’s 12th century cathedrals than high tech architectural designs like this one.

This futuristic building will be both a museum and an arts centre, housing selected collections of both the New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the St. Petersburg- based State Hermitage Museum.

Hadid’s design was selected over designs from famous architects like Daniel Libeskind (Studio Daniel Libeskind) and Massimiliano Fuksas (Studio Fuksas).

With the feasibility study expected to be completed by summer of 2008, we can’t wait to for it completion in 2011.
